When I read the message from the author at the front of this story I thought oh no it is going to be depressing! I decided to read it anyway and then respond to the message. A ways into the book I realized that I was having a hard time putting it down. I really enjoyed the story and found it very entertaining. I will admit there was one time I really wanted to shake the heroine but she later redeemed herself so I let the feeling slide. The heroine is a young, single mother. She is successful at her career but she has a lot of issues with losing loved ones and her insecurities as a mother. She meets the hero, a paramedic with a few issues of his own. He has suffered the loss of a brother and then later his child. It has been very hard on him and he is still recovering. They meet and there is not instant chemistry. But, they keep meeting by accident. This story takes a bit of a twist when they each talk to loved ones on the other side. He gets answers, she doesn't. As with all things, sometimes you are looking so hard for your "sign" that you miss it being right in front of you. . I thought this was a really good part of the book. Since I believe in this, it was not hard for me to relate and to believe. It was especially touching for me when the woman was reading to the child. Nice touch!! Perfect, as a matter of fact.
This is a really good story. Well written, very believable and very much a part of life and things that are going on every day in our world. I thought it was well done. I really liked the hero, loved the little girl and her personality, and the rest of the characters. There were no bad guys, no adventure, etc. Just a working through issues and a coming together. A really good read.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

The Paramedic Rescue Heroes of New York Book 1 edition by Patty Blount Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
4.5 Stars.
This was a good book. Great characters, superb writing and a story so soul filling that it gave me chills.
Having a hard time juggling her two year old toddler Nadia, Kara is overwhelmed. Not willing to put her stress and problems on her friends and family shes determined to prefect motherhood. Being a single mother with a blossoming career however isn't easy. Still reeling from a devastating loss, Reid is barley hanging on. Just going through the motions of waking up and going to work, his grief is slowing killing him. Until he meets a feisty momma and her baby at one of his child CPR classes. For the first time since his loss, he's feeling again. It takes one look in Nadia's eyes and one kiss from her momma and he's falling in love. But Kara's baby daddy wants his family back and he comes baring life changing news that causes Reid to flee from the prospect of more heartbreak. Kara and Reid both try to reconcile their past to have a brighter future together.
What a great story. I enjoyed every part of it. I stayed up late on a work night because I couldn't stop reading. The writing was amazing. I usually don't like 3rd POV but this story flowed effortlessly and flawlessly. There was no story lag or drag. The characters where well developed. Very in depth with real emotions. They story itself was heartbreakingly beautiful. I couldn't imagine losing a child so Reid's pain was raw and honest. His bond with Nadia was the cutest thing. The epilogue was so damn sweet it gave me a tooth ache.
This is my first novel by their author but not my last. I can't wait to continue the series.
I loved this book. It's not a typical read for me... having said that, I'm not sure what typical is, but the blurb sucked me in and I was hooked.
Tara is a single Mom, has a career which she does well at, and lost her Mother on 9/11. Reid Bennett is a paramedic with the NYFD, lost his brother in 9/11, lost his 3 year old daughter ( who is refuses to even talk about) and now divorced and has a huge chip on his shoulder along with some real anger problems. Tara struggles with being inadequate as a Mom, her daughter's father left when she found out she was pregnant. Good riddance.
They meet at a child CPR class, Reid hates teaching the classes because of the reminder. Tara is in the class. When her nanny shows up with her toddler bc of a family emergency Reid almost blows a nut, but let me say before that, he notices Tara in the back of the room. They run into each other once again a day later when Nadia the houdini toddler slips out of her stroller while they are out shopping and makes a run for it, only to snagged by Reid who recognizes her and proceeds to dress her down in the most humiliating way, I cringed. "People like you shouldn't even have children" and that isn't the only time he manages to publicly unleash his anger and harmful words on her. They both visit the memorial park and cross paths there. These two cross paths a lot. Tara's always been a firm believer in "signs" and actually Reid does too. He goes to the park to talk to his brother. His brother answers him. This wasn't an out there book, I believe it signs too... some are obvious, some not so.
Tara has the support of her sister who comes back to NY just before Tara delivers and meets Lucas. That's a different book, which I plan on reading. Eventually Reid and Tara make peace and he helps her with Nadia. And the darling gets attached to him. She's so sweet. And wow is he taken with her.
He's a natural with her, even when she's acting up. He helps Tara a lot and they fall for each other.
When her ex reappears and brings with him an epic crisis Reid helps Tara but then makes a run for it.
He just leaves her, sure he calls her sister to come to rescue, who enlists all the friends etc. But he just disappears. Tara is crushed. Reid spends some very lonely isolated days by himself.
So in order to find out what happens with these two and also Nadia and the rest of the fun bunch, ( I really need to read the series, because between Sean the Irishman and Bree's boyfriend the NHL player I can only imagine...) You have to read this book. Don't let the cover fool you, there's some heavy duty stuff in here and lots of love. Just the right amount of angst and if you're a Mom you should read it and you can relate to what she goes through.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. Patty you did an amazing job!! I wish you all the best.
Kara is a single mother, who's mom died in the World Trade Center attacks. Reid is a paramedic who's brother died in the attacks as well. Their paths seem to keep crossing, and as much as they may fight it, it appears to be a sign from their deceased family members.
This was a very touching story. Kara was really struggling as a mom and Reid always seemed to be right there when she needed help. I really enjoyed reading about them. And I shed a few tears towards the end of the story. It was a very moving and emotional book.
