Gardens play an important part in our well being. A garden might serve as a tranquil retreat or private escape from the demands of everyday life. So it is no wonder that gardening is back in fashion, and particularly growing fruit and vegetables, even those who only have a window box are having a go at growing their own produce. The reason for this renewed interest is quite simple, people want to save money, reduce the carbon footprint of their food, have control over what chemicals have been in contact with their food and for the feel good factor that producing your own food gives.
In this book I have gathered together tips, snippets of information and advice that I have amassed over my years as a gardener. There is also a section on dividing perennials - plants for free.
The few pence that you have paid for this book can quickly be saved by implementing my money saving ideas. I do hope that you find the information informative and that it adds to the pleasure you can gain from gardening.

My grandfather always had a huge garden - at least an acre. I remember trying to crawl out to that garden to get more tomatoes shortly before my first birthday.* Grandpa raised the most wonderful tomatoes. Every day he would bring wooden baskets of them to the porch for my Grandma to can and as often as I could I would crawl out there and eat tomatoes until they were gone or somebody found me! These days I raise some pretty wonderful tomatoes myself (thanks Grandpa!) but as any gardener will tell you, there is always something new - a new seed, a new season, a new way of doing things. Gardening is about change.Author Helen Crapnell had me thinking "What a great idea! Why didn't I think of that?" at least once on every page of Top Tips for Successful Gardening - Save Money, Time and Reduce Failures If you garden or think you might like to garden or just want a pot of lettuces on the porch, you'll find much valuable information between these covers. Do note, this is from a UK author. US readers may have to do a little internal translation in spots from English to English, but nothing too onerous - you'll easily get the drift.
Normally, I would give this book 4 stars, mostly because Helen needs to run this by a proofreader. Like everyone else, she is a victim of the Spellcheck Monster. However, she does include an interactive table of contents and the content is so good I can ignore that.

*PS - I still have the crack in my skull from the spill down the stairs.
